To compare the emf of two given primary cells using a potentiometer.
Aim: -
To compare the emf of two given primary cells using a potentiometer.
APPARATUS: -
A potentiometer, jockey, two primary cells (Leclanche and Daniel), two way key, galvanometer, battery or battery eliminator, rheostat, one way key, connecting wires.
THEORY: -
If a steady current is mentioned by a battery through a wire of uniform composition and cross sectional area, then the potential drop V along the wire, is directly proportional to its length 'l'
Write formula and describe it.
OBSERVATIONS: -
1. Number of wires in potentiometer = .............
2. Range of resistance box = ............
3. Voltage drop error E = ............
4. Voltage drop error E2 = ............
5. Voltage drop error E3 = ............
Table: Comparison of emf of two cells
PRECAUTIONS: -
1. All connections should be neat clean and tight.
2. The emf of battery E should be greater than E1 and E2.
3. The current in the circuit should remain constant for a set of observations.
4. Jockey should be pressed lightly on the wire.
