To Collect water from two different water bodies around you and study them for pH. Biology Practical Class 12

To Collect Water From Two Different Water Bodies Around You And Study Them For pH.

Aim:-

To collect water from two different water Bodies around you and study them for pH.

REQUERMENT: -

Water samples from two different water bodies such as pond and tap, dropper, test tubes, hand lens, pH paper trip, beaker.

PROCEDURE:-

1.    Pour a little amount of water from each sample in separate clean beakers and label these beakers as A and B.

2.    Dip a small piece of broad range pH  paper in each of water samples.

3.    Compare the color observed on the pH paper strip with the standard pH value color chart provided by the manufacturer. This gives an approximate pH.

4.    For more accurate value, take pieces of narrow range of pH paper of the value indicated by broad range of pH paper and dip them separately in the water samples.

5.    Again compare the color of the paper with the pH scale given on the pH paper.

6.    This will give the correct value of the pH of water samples.

OBSERVATION:-

            S. No.                    Water Samples                                Color developed             Result/Inference

            1.                        Pond Water                                            _______                              _______

            2.                        Tap Water                                              _______                               _______

RESULT:-

1.    If the pH of a natural solution is 7, then water sample are neutral in nature.

2.    If the pH of a basic solution is above 7, then water samples are alkaline in nature.

3.    If the pH of an acidic solution is below 7, then water samples are acidic in nature.

PRECAUTIONS:-

1.    Employ dry and clean beakers/test tube for your experiments.

2.    Use separate dropper for each water samples.

3.    Dry the pH paper before comparing the color with the color scale.

4.    Match the color carefully and determine pH accurately.
