To draw I-V characteristic curve of a p-n function diode in forward bias and reverse bias | Physics Practical Class 12 | Gaurav Kumar

To draw I-V characteristic curve of a p-n function diode in forward bias and reverse bias.

Aim: -

To draw I-V characteristic curve of a p-n function diode in forward bias and reverse bias.

APPARATUS: -

A p-n junction diode, a 3V battery, a 30 V battery, rheostat, one 3 V voltmeter, a 30 V voltmeter, 100 mA ammeter, 100 uA ammeter, one way key, connecting wires.

THEORY: -

A P-N junction is a basic semiconductor device which is so prepared that one half is P-type and the other N-type, the contact surface dividing the two halves is known as P-N junction.

The P-N junction can be connected to an external battery in two ways as given below:

1.    Forward Biasing:

When an external battery is connected to the junction diode with P section connected to positive pole and N- Section to the negative pole of the battery, the junction diode is said to be forward biased.

2.    Reverse Biasing:

When an external battery is connected to the positive pole of the battery, the junction diode is said to be reverse biased.

OBSERVATION: -

Least count of voltmeter             =     ..................... V

Zero error of voltmeter                =    ...................... V

Least count of milliammeter        =    .....................    mA

Zero error of milliammeter          =    ......................     mA
